Spiritual Gifts

Knowing one’s spiritual gift is important to finding God’s purpose for one’s life. Most Christians, that this author has met, do not know their Spiritual gift; this should not be. The Bible teaches that every Christian fits into the Body of Jesus (metaphor for the community of believers) in a specific way (see 1 Corinthians 12). Everyone has specific callings—duties really—in this life. So finding one’s spiritual gift is of the utmost of important things for a believer to do. Finding out what you are equipped to do in the Church is a joy; for in it, one’s feels most satisfied. It is when one’s is using their spiritual gift that God is partially revealed through a person to the Church and to the world (see 1 Corinthians 12:7).

There are a couple of things to consider in studying the spiritual gifts:

  1. At times, people believe they are gifted at something they are not.
  2. Some Christians have not been saved long. Therefore, they may be the best teacher in the 21st century; but may need time to grow to realize this particular gift.

Steps for finding one’s spiritual gift:

  1. Pray and ask God to show you your spiritual gift.
  2. Study the Bible passages below that relate to spiritual gifts.
  3. Show Christians you know well the list of spiritual gifts below. Ask them what gift they see in you.
  4. Ask your parents what gift they see in you.
  5. If you are a new Christian, be patient. You may not know you gift(s) right away.
  6. Desire more gifts and the greater gifts (see 1 Corinthians 12:31).
