6 Some say we actually cannot please God. Instead, they would explain that “God is unemotional toward us.” There are significant theological reasons and implications, no matter one’s perspective, on this idea. Still, this truth remains: the Bible teaches that we need to live our lives with pleasing God as a motivation.

Hope

12 Micheal Svigel, “Hope Handout,” Dallas Theological Seminary. I have used his outline for the section headings for this chapter.

13 Paul did not have in mind that all these things he spoke of had been fully realized—to the contrary of some. For Paul wrote in the same letter, “For if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone” (1 Corinthians 15:19). Therefore, it is clear, that some have misinterpreted this passage by thinking that the unimaginable to the lost has been fully possessed by the saved. How does one then correlate Paul’s 1 Corinthians 15:19 to this idea? Some commentators have missed the implied teaching of Paul. See Warren W. Wiersbe, The Wiersbe Bible Commentary: New Testament, (Colorado Springs, CO: David C. Cook, 2007), 460. Also, Thomas Constable, “1 Corinthians,” accessed Sept. 30, 2019, Source Link.

43 Some scholars believe that the 500 people Paul spoke of in 1 Corinthians were all at Galilee. This to me seems to be an argument from silence. The context does not allow for such an interpretation. Most likely Jesus appeared to these people at various times between His resurrection and ascension.
